What is the 10 Porutham match?
Porutham (Dasaporutham) is the South Indian way of checking marriage compatibility from the bride's and groom's birth stars (Nakshatras). Ten factors are checked — Dina, Gana, Mahendra, Stree Deergha, Yoni, Rasi, Rasi Adhipathi, Vashya, Rajju and Vedha — and the result is shown as a count out of 10.
How many Poruthams are needed for marriage?
Families commonly look for a good count (often 6 or more out of 10) and, more importantly, no Rajju or Vedha dosha, which are traditionally treated as serious. Customs differ between families and communities, so the final decision is usually made with the family astrologer.
What is Rajju dosha?
Each birth star belongs to one of five Rajju groups. When the bride and groom are in the same Rajju group, it is called Rajju dosha. Same Sirasu, Kanda, Udara or Todu Rajju is treated as serious; same Pada Rajju is usually considered milder.
What is a same-gotra (sagotra) marriage?
A gotra is a family lineage. Many South Indian families avoid marriage between a bride and groom of the same gotra. Enter both gotras above and the checker will flag a match.
Is this the same as Guna Milan?
No. Guna Milan (Ashtakoota, scored out of 36) is the North Indian system. This tool uses the South Indian 10-Porutham system that Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayali families commonly follow.
Do I need my birth star?
